…the weather

Weather is one of those things (most of “those things” also being related in some form to nature) that can surprise. The wife and I went to a show last night (perhaps the future victim of a review). When we left the house the weather was standard north springtime fare, a humid 80-85 (f) following some morning showers. When we exited the theater the temperature had dropped to a more balmy 68. And then when we woke up this morning it had dropped all the way to 60 (f). This drops us right into the heart of the matter, the inherent paradox of predicting the weather.

Through the infinite permutations by calculations of various supercomputers we have gained the ability to predict the weather with some matter of accuracy. That’s all well and good for choosing an outfit or grabbing an outfit on the way out the door. But it’s the nature of, well, nature to defy any sort of norm. But that sort of philosophizing is taking this in the wrong direction. It is human nature to try to make predictions, either with the aid of technology or through simple observation. So, over the past few weeks I have observed that the Florida weather patter has switched from the rather nice, albeit too short winter pattern of cool days into the (personally) less pleasant overwarm ones. Cue today and the unpredictabilty. I expected more warm humidity. And instead got a gorgeous day. While we did not get to get out that much to enjoy it as should have happened (again, something left for a future review), we were able to open all the windows and air out the house, I cooked better than averages steaks on the grill, and a nice breeze rustled the trees giving a pleasant ambiance to the day. It might rain tomorrow, although the prediction is for more welcomed cool weather. Is this randomness a good thing? I think so. It keeps us puny mortals in our place, guessing from day to day. I may not have an umbrella ready at hand, but the mystery is worth it.

4 starshalf star

Rated four and one-half stars for it’s defiance of human nature. Would have been a perfect five were it not for those dreadful Florida summer days.

    Same thing here in Atlanta.

My mood is improving with the nice weather, though.
