The worst part of any vacation (even vacations that are particularly stressful) is settling back into the home routine. The getting up, eating, working, eating, exercising, showering, eating, watching tv, going to bed routine. But it really is interesting because when I am away from home for long enough, it’s the routine of home that I miss.

Words like to escape, plain and simple. I fight with myself, struggle to rip the images from my brain when all they need is a little coaxing, if only I would take my time with it. But my impatience kicks in and the idea(s) shy away like pill bugs.

When my wife and I find something that we both really enjoy, whether it is a film or music, we can get a little obsessive. Not creepy obsessive like buying all the entire catalog of merchandise or anything (okay, I will do extensive wikipedia crossreferences), but whatever it is that strikes a chord in both of us sticks with us for a while.

My wife and I just completed our second Camino. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, we did the Camino de Santiago (also known my many other names), which is a 1000+ km path from the border of France across northern Spain. While we did not walk the whole thing (yet) we once again walked the last section of it, over 100 km, the minimum required to receive our Compostelas, certificates of completion marking our pilgrimage. The Camino de Santiago, or Pilgrimage of Saint James is draped in religion. And while for the faithful it is surely a revealing experience, for those like my wife and I who shun the trappings of religious demagoguery, the Camino is no less spiritual or revealing.
