FINlosdaily life daily life, FINlos, food, obesity, scale
I’m not fat, but I sure feel like it sometimes. There are few early morning ego busters that are quite as efficient as having to lose a notch in your belt or having to change pants because the first pair was too tight. As I currently go through this recurring struggle (it’s not that I can’t lose weight) I find myself avoiding the scale in the bathroom. I don’t need to weigh myself, I can feel it.

FINlostravel blisters, miscellaneous, santiago, spain
My first trip out of the United States was to Spain, my wife’s native country. Once there I found myself falling into a funk. Culture shocked (in fine European tradition the whole country, it seems, shuts down from 2-4 every day!), homesick (the flat we inhabited with my wife’s Abuelo in Madrid felt to be about the size of my living room), and tragically restricted in our activities by the limitations of our host (he’s old and diabetic), not to mention the 110F temperatures (who knew Madrid was a desert?); I needed a break from the rough start we had upon our arrival.

FINlosfood dare, food, gross, seafood
This is a sore subject for me, mostly due to the ridicule that it has rewarded me with as a consequence. I don’t like seafood. Any seafood. No, not even shrimp cocktail. But really I think the question should be how can you?

FINlosfilm/movie/tv film/movie/tv, Juno
The biggest reason why this film is worth watching is that it does not take a filtered, euphemism laden vision of teen pregnancy. There’s no “I was knocked up” joke to soften the reality here. The protagonist very plainly says, “I’m pregnant.”

FINlosfilm/movie/tv, pop culture cavemen, commercials, daily life, geico, pop culture, tv
Television is a wasteland, cliche but true. It’s bad enough that I lose any of my time watching it, and even worse that the few things I am interested in are so frequently interrupted by people trying to sell me things. In general, I am a cynic when it comes to people selling me things. I am customarily not going to believe what you say. I am going to assume that you are just looking to make a buck. And while this remains true of Geico, they are indeed trying to sell me car insurance, they at least attempt to do it with humor and cleverness. And in my book, a little cleverness goes a long way.

Is it because I don’t exercise enough? Is it because I have bad posture? Is it because there is some orthopedic issue that I am unaware of? Is it because my spare tire has become too big? Is it because I am hunched over a computer for too long?
Whatever the reason, I have chronic back pain, and it is no fun.

FINlosmiscellaneous architecture, Capitol, Florida, overcompesating, satire
Every state should have a seat of government to be proud of. Florida’s Capitol Complex in Tallahassee (when we last visited Spain several people were under the impression that Miami is the Capitol of Florida and for better or worse this is not the case) fits the bill. Combining the grace and grandeur of the old south with the angles of modern architecture, Florida’s Capitol surely competes with even the most elegant of state structures.

FINlospop culture drums, mario bros. 2, vadrum, youtube
If you are either an internet meme aficionado or a frequenter of gaming blogs then you have heard the name Andrea Vadrucci or his YouTube screen name vadrum. If you are not, however, a part of the web 2.0 experience (or whatever the advertising agencies are calling it) let me introduce you to the subject of this review. He’s an Italian drummer. That’s enough to get you started.

FINlosfood daily life, food, ice cream, lactose
It was a simple recipe, really. I found it on Allrecipes.com. It’s funny that I looked up a recipe for a milkshake, I mean how much simpler can things get. To quote Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction, “A shake? Milk and ice cream?” Well, I’ll justify it by saying I was looking for ideas, and also that with all things found on the internet, it never ends up quite the way it started. So here was my recipe:
