A few months back a student of mine brought in a soundtrack for a movie that she was psyched about. It was some trashy goth affair with a mostly industrial grind aesthetic to it, which wasn’t to say it was bad. She explained that the film was actually a musical, and then she threw the title at me. I admit, I laughed a little at first. But I indulged her enthusiasm and looked up the trailer. Like the music, it was a trashy goth affair with a mostly industrial grind aesthetic. But then my mind was changed when a face appeared that matched a familiar voice in the music. Anthony Steward Head was one of the leads, I knew I had to see it.

My wife and I have been re-watching our DVD collection of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As we make our way through season five of seven I am realizing a couple of things: one, the show is really good and two, I don’t remember most of the episodes from the first time I watched them a couple of years ago.

When my wife and I find something that we both really enjoy, whether it is a film or music, we can get a little obsessive. Not creepy obsessive like buying all the entire catalog of merchandise or anything (okay, I will do extensive wikipedia crossreferences), but whatever it is that strikes a chord in both of us sticks with us for a while.

I love monsters. As a literary person I understand that monsters are used in stories as tools to examine the failings of society and human nature. Monsters such as vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein, and most others serves as metaphors for the evil potential that all people possess. But only zombies exist as true reflections of the weakness and depravity that we as humans express on a daily basis.

Television is a wasteland, cliche but true. It’s bad enough that I lose any of my time watching it, and even worse that the few things I am interested in are so frequently interrupted by people trying to sell me things. In general, I am a cynic when it comes to people selling me things. I am customarily not going to believe what you say. I am going to assume that you are just looking to make a buck. And while this remains true of Geico, they are indeed trying to sell me car insurance, they at least attempt to do it with humor and cleverness. And in my book, a little cleverness goes a long way.

If you are either an internet meme aficionado or a frequenter of gaming blogs then you have heard the name Andrea Vadrucci or his YouTube screen name vadrum. If you are not, however, a part of the web 2.0 experience (or whatever the advertising agencies are calling it) let me introduce you to the subject of this review. He’s an Italian drummer. That’s enough to get you started.
